- wa8yxmExplorer IIII think most of the portable ice makers are more or less the same, Oh some may be bigger or faster but they are all basically the same.
I've avoided them for a long time but was given one so said "What the heck".. Well, I too like the added room in the freezer. - outboardfeverExplorerThanks for all the input. That's what makes the forum great.
I think for now we will use a cooler to store a couple bags of ice.
Sometimes simpler is better since we don't go through large amounts of ice. - MrWizardModeratorAs usual, this thread went Off track .. Sideways
The OP question is about 'Portable' ice makers
Not in the fridge ice makers

Portable ice makers - jerseyjimExplorerOurs came with an icemaker. After 1st trip wife demanded it be taken out...takes up too much freezer room. (especially on a snowbird run). So...I removed it and replaced it with 2 ice-trays. Makes enough for us two....and if we have company, buy a bag of ice for a couple bucks and put them in a cooler.
Works for us....... - bob213Explorer

I have an extra one if you want it. It's a Magic Chef. Not sure if you are on the road, or Cali. We are North of Eugene Oregon for the next week. PM me if you are in the area.
Wow! What a nice offer!!!!:)
We camp in extreme high temps and find that ours works best inside the trailer in those conditions. Once we figured that out, we love it! - MrWizardModerator

We just removed ours. It gives us a lot more room in the freezer. They are easily removed, just pluged in and a couple of screws. We make a few ice cubes in a tray or two and it is enough for us.
are you talking about the "fridge" ice maker ?
the OPs question is about portable ice makers - dezolenExplorerRemoved my fridge ice maker on day one to free up freezer space. Keep a portable Emerson unit in the outside curb side bay beside the beer fridge. Sure woks well. Use it in the sticks and brick home in the off season.

- garry1pExplorerHave had one for several years.
Fill it with water and in a few minuets it starts dumping ice into the basket.
If you do not use all the ice in the basket it will slowly melt and make more ice so you always have ice in the basket.
When the water runs low you will have to add water depending on how much ice you use for us that's every few days.
I like not having to buy ice or running out of ice. We do use distilled water. - mabynackExplorer III bought a portable, countertop model and it was worthless. It broke after the first load of ice. I exchanged it and the second one did the same thing. Now I'm back to using ice-cube trays.
