Power Gear Slide Mechanism

I just purchased a 2000 Airstream Land Yacht XL 355 which has two slides. Since I have never had slides before I need some advice. They are electric motor only models and the instructions state to operate either in our out until the motor stops. I have open and closed both slides and in neither one the motor stops. I don't want to destroy the inside slide surround by holding the out button down and see what happens, the slide in the bedroom the side cabinet started to separate when I didn't let go of the slide switch soon enough when the slide was going out. Are there adjustable limit switches somewhere that controls when the motors shutdown depending on the location of the slide or what causes the motor to shut down when the slide is in the proper location when either in or out.
  • I just took a look at the controllers and there is a min/max wording on the cover but no screw hole, apparently I need to take the covers off to get to the adjustment. Is it a rheostat that I turn or is it jumpers as the service manual shows that Old-Biscuit provided?

There is another advantage to spare shear bolts.....

One campground I visit the dang bolts keep coming out of the picnic table benches, SO I sit on the end and it will "Teeter-Totter" and I'm on the ground.. Now less you get lucky it takes forever to get maintenance out there with a box of bolts but.. Well, turns out the same size fits.
  • Thanks for the information I have located the controllers and will look for the adjustment screw. Didn't think about having spare shear bolts will stock them also.
  • IF you look on FRONT of Slide Out Controller

S/B an 'adjustment screw' Min--Max Stop adjust

Yours is set too high...turn it down

You will have to play with it so that motor stops BUT slides FULLY SEAL (extended & retracted)

Power gear slides use current sensors in the control box. Not switches.. The theory is when the slide is all the way in or out the motor will "Stall" the current draw by the motor will thus INCREASE and the controller will then shut off.

Your problem indicates a bad control module.. Sorry I can not be more specific.

I do believe there IS an adjustment but since I've yet to find my Power gear control module.. I can not be sure.

OH, something else.. IF that is a rack and pinion slide (Long toothed rail)

You may want to pick up a dozen bolts 1/4 inch, Grade 8, Also some washers and NYLOCK nuts,, the bolt should be long enough that the SMOOTH portion of the shank is longer than the distance across the SQUARE shaft (the large of the two)

WHen a bolt shears replacem, make sure the SMOOTH part is visible on the thread end, then washer up to the threads and NYLOCK it down tight.
