Purchase

We are looking to down size from 34 ft class a to class c.We do not travel a lot but rather choose to find camp groound and stay awhile with ocassional trip from NC to Mich.Would like to know what others drive and maybe reccomend. Some of the things looking for are couch, chair table rather than dinnet and something wife can drive.Doubt anyone coach has it all. Thanks for any advice.
  • We are looking at getting a 32-34 foot travel trailer and having it taken to a park on the Oregon coast where we know and like the people and just keep it there full time. So no need for a pickup to pull with. And then just keeping our 23 foot C class for travel. We can stay in it for trips of a month or so. We will also just keep our home for now.. We have full timed 2 times. 10 years on boats and 10 years in our 25 foot Airstream. Kind of lost the intest in full timing. But still love to go.
  • I'd suggest you get a little more specific about what you're looking for. I currently have a 32 1/2' class C which has so much more room than my previous 24' class C. The 24'er could/would go anywhere you could/ would take a normal size car or pick up truck. The longer MH - not so much. On the road they drove the same, but maneuvering (U turns for example)they are different.
I don't think you'll find many chair/table combinations in a smaller c (if that's what you're looking for) most will have dinettes.
Is there a length limit that your wife would be comfortable driving ? My wife hasn't driven any of the RVs I've had, since my first 22' class C back in the mid nineties.
  • If your wife can drive a car, she can drive any rv made. While my DW doesn't drive our mh (her choice), I'm fully confident that she could. It's not that difficult.

With any type of trailer, typically backing is the main issue most drivers have.

I have seen table/chair set up in all types of rvs, but most common in Class A's.

When you say "campgrounds"....are you only referring to state supported type of campgrounds or are you also including commercial rv parks? Big difference. If that is the case, I think I would go with a Class C and a small toad.

  • Since you already had an RV, I will make a more general suggestion.

We have a couch/table setup and LOVE it. I didn't see that in any 24' or smaller unit I looked at. We bout a 26' because it's a GREAT size for two people, will comfortably fit up to 3 or 4 guests and you can still fit that size on a typical driveway. Any bigger and parking starts to become more difficult in town. Make sure you buy with a generator, or haggle down so you can get one.

I imagine you know that the kiss of DEATH on a class C is a severely rotted out cabover. Whatever you buy, make sure you have gone through the cabover and don't see any visible rot.

  • Not sure what size or price range you are looking for, but we are extremely happy with our 06 Tioga 31w SL with its Class A basement style storage bins. Love the couch/table layout, huge kitchen and large slide out. We came from a newer Chateau 25 footer which was a really nice motor home, but looked a lot better than it functioned. Hated the small corner bed, u-shaped dinette and drivers seat would hit the slide if it was moved back too far.

The absolute only drawback of the 31 is a wider turning radius over the shorter Chateau and parking it. But if you are used to a 34, should present no problem. I can't stress enough how much nicer those big storage doors are compared to the smaller ones the Chateau had. Also, with the big doors, it is much easier to access your dump station.
