Question about the diesel sprinters with a rear slide

I'm able to work remotely for part of the year and I'm hoping to pick up one of the 24ft diesel sprinters with a rear slide and convert the back bedroom to an office. How difficult do you think it would be to remove the rear bed? It'd be nice if I could build a desk in to the side-out, but I haven't been able to get in one yet to see if it's possible. Thanks for any help!

The rear slide, with the Queen size bed, would be very difficult to modify, IMHO. Or at least, it would take a major rebuild of the slide out and the flooring. The QSB is built on a 5" raised platform. So, at the start you have 5" less head room even if you stripped out the bed.

While there may be other 'gear' hidden under the 5" riser, for sure on the port side there is a water pump, water pipes, and other 'utilities' sandwiched between the van's floor and the riser box.

The QSB is built on a second raised box that opens to a storage bay under the bed. It's also accessible from the outside rear of the coach. Access is by tilting the bed's wooden base up and to the front of the van. You would have to take all that mess out and rebuild the base flooring to fill in the hole.

Then there's the electrical service you have to bring in to the work area. The single duplex plug won't do.... it's high up in a storage bin on the starboard wall in the slide out.

On the WVP, it would be easier, IMHO, to modify the side slide out. Removing the sofa bed and replacing it with a desk. Still there's only one duplex plug in that area. But there are two bins above the sofa.
  • As an alternative, if you are going toadless, I've seen some small trailers that are offices. I wonder if one can get one with the total weight under 5000 pounds.

The idea comes from some people I know who hit a renaissance faire. They have a diesel pusher, and a fairly large trailer behind it. When they set up camp, the sedan and motorcycle are pulled out from the trailer. The trailer then becomes their office. Of course, one can't pull that much with a Winnebago View, but it might be the case that a small trailer can double as office space.
