Question for Colorado residents

I'm considering whether to buy or rent a Class C but need to get some idea of the cost of ownership.

If I buy one for around $75,000, about how much will it cost to register it here in the Denver metro area? And, how much would it be to insure it, both collision and liability? By the way, if it matters, I'm 74 years old.

I don't think I can get an estimate from the DMV or my insurance agent without a VIN.

Ballpark figures would be just fine as I have no idea.

Thanks, Pete
  • Your local DMV will answer the first, and your insurance agent will answer the second. Way too many variables for us armchair experts to give an idea.
  • The costs are variable by counties and it based off MSRP and age, go the county website and check most have a calculator i.e. Jefferson is the county I am in and they have one. Your age doesn't matter.
  • We owned a 2010 Jayco Seneca which we paid around $125,000.00 while we lived in Highlands Ranch, Douglas County. The first year it was around $3,800.00 for the plates. Very Expensive.

  • Sales tax in Denver of what 7.75% or so owners tax is based on msrp not purchase price times 85% times I think it is 2.3% and is graduated down by age. Add another $200 for various other fees

So 5800ish in sales tax and another 1400ish in owners tax (assuming new but if not could
Be as Low As$3 depending on age) and age another $200 for other various fees so somewhere in the $7k range. Dealer will collect the sales tax but owner tax will be due when you go get your plates. If the unit is used I think the years of graduating it down in cost are based on from when new not when you bought it.
