Radiator Capacity

Can anyone tell me what or approximately what the capacity is for my radiator and cooling system is for my 2002 Caterpillar 3126 engine is. My motor is the Phaeton 35 rear radiator. I will buy more coolant than I think I need if it's an approximate amount. I plan on using the caterpillar 50/50 blend of coolant. this number will also help with the amount of distilled water. Thank-you
  • Use the ELC concentrate.

Unless you drive over 300,000 miles during the life of the ELC, Caterpillar does not recommend adding the Extender at the three year point.

Remember, much Caterpillar literature was originally written for OTR trucks. And in that light, ELC was good for 6 years/600,000 miles with the addition of the extender after 3 years/300,000 miles. Testing of coach coolant with ELC has revealed that we can overdose the system if the extender is added unless that 300,000 mile figure is reached.
  • Thank-you Brett; This will be my first time changing my own coolant as I have always had Peterson do it. I printed your cooling system 101 that you posted on 9/26/13 in response to Dennis, and I was impressed by you saying that we would probably get a better job by doing it our selves. I have always changed my own antifreeze on all my vehicles through the years but this motor-home is my first diesel. I do plan on using the ELC coolant. The Caterpillar manual says to use ELC Extender with Caterpillar ELC which seems confusing to me but I will verify with the Peterson Parts Dept.
  • Ed,

Call your chassis maker with your chassis number. They design and build the cooling system.

    If Freightliner: 800 385-4357

BTW, which Caterpillar coolant will you use-- ELC (recommended)?

Do you know the proper steps for changing coolant in your coach?
