RAIN WATER LEAK ABOVE FRONT SEATS

I thought my leak was coming from the tri windows. Discovered the leak was the rubber seal of the windshield. Both sides of windshield, upper corners separated from the painted steel. The rubber seal curled up a bit from age. The storage pockets over front seats had water and cloth was discolored with a mildew smell. I pried the seal up a bit which exposed the opening. I squeezed some black sealant in the openings. I then opened up some safety pins and stuck them through the windshield seal to hold them in place till it dried. No more raindrops falling on my head. Just saying.

I had a leak about 2 months ago that I thought came from the tri-windows. Anyhow, Broco Glass investigated and said they were ok, apparently they use a hose and lots of water to test. The problem turned out to be from snow lying on the roof top, eventually melting and the water finding its way inside, via the running lights. Only electrical tape around the wires was keeping previous rain at bay.

When I ran a shop, I used to get cars with that same complaint. The newer rope sealant installations aren't as bad as the rubber gasket but it still happens. The next time you have trouble, don't use black silicone. Oh, it works okay but not as well as "flowable" clear silicone windshield sealant.

I had all the seals on my 1992 replaced when the water started splashing on me while driving in a downpour. It cut down a lot on road noise as well. However, the doors are rather hard to slam shut now..LOL.
