Gonna be headed over to Pensacola to see our Navy Officer (son) for thanksgiving while he's in flight school.

We thought maybe we'd stop along the way and maybe enjoy a day or 2 - see/learn something new on our way over from Houston.

I was thinking gulf port/biloxi mississippi area but we're open to suggestions...not too far off i10 / along the way.

We prefer to be east of NoLa, since we'll be in NoLA the early part of 2015.

anything near the water/beach that anyone would recommend for 2 days/2 nights ?

someone (perhaps in a private message) - suggested picking up the Dauphin Island Ferry (their recommendation was to check weight limits etc)....as a follow up -

despite what their website says (RV's $35/60 oneway/roundtrip) the telephone recording says they are not taking RV's, Boats or Trailers until further notice.

There's also an Elks Lodge in Pensacola. Henderson State Park is right on the beach in Destin, about an hour away....Dennis

On our Summer 2013 trip, we stayed a few days in Cajun RV Park in Biloxi. Easy access to/from I10, and right across the road from the beach. A little further down the road (east), we spent a few days at Dauphin Island Campground. A bit pricey, but you can't beat it for beach scenery and solitude. At Pensacola, we stayed in Oak Grove Park on Pensacola NAS. A great military campground.

Lots of nice parks along the way. I'm partial to Buccaneer State Park and Ft. Pickens.
When you can, drop down to US 98 and follow it east to get off the Interstate. Lots of beautiful scenery down there.

Buccaneer State Park, Waveland MS one of the best. It has full hookups, excellent shower houses, across the road from the Gulf, very reasonable price and completely rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. Or you could do the RV park at The Silver Slipper Casino, just down the road, no frills parking lot with full hookups also across the road from the Gulf.
