Redirect Aqua Hot exhaust

We have our first coach with Aqua Hot. The exhaust exits out the driver's side of the coach. While it does not smoke or smell too bad, I think a neighbor in a site to my left might be bothered by it. I thought of getting a Genturi for it but where it exits the coach, the vertical pipe would be too near the side of the bedroom slide.

Wondering if anyone with Aqua Hot has just used an EMT elbow and a couple of sections of EMT, lay it on the ground (or maybe elevate it with some blocks) and route the exhaust to the rear of the coach?
  • Build a Genturi for those close quarter problems.

Cost about $30 with typical hardware store parts.

You will feel better and your neighbor will feel better.

If it exits on the curb side, it will blow on you on your patio. On mine, it exits on the driver's side so it can blow onto my neighbor's patio. We've not had the coach long enough to know if folks might complain. I just don't want to be blowing exhaust from the diesel burner on my neighbors, especially in those RV parks where folks are fairly close together.

If the AH is running, it's too cold for us to be outside and it would not be on during the day for hot water, we'd be using the electric element. I don't think you'll have a problem.

Thanks BussS for posting the link as I,m in Norway on a cruise. I founded a sheet metal elbow the same size as the AHot exhaust and use most of the time if I have a close neighbor. By just pointing it up and slightly forward away from the bedroom slide it does a good job of getting rid of any fumes. I only use the diesel boiler when it,s cold or when boon docking so the widows are closed or rarely are the neighbors close but I still use it as it just slips on without the need for a clamp unlike the elbow I use on the generator.

Look over IvyLog's Post He has it shown pretty well -- IMHO running the Genturi level will defeat the concept of going up (Heat Rises) that makes it work.

You could always just sent Ivy a PM to see what he thinks.

    BOL,
  • The exhaust on our AquaHot exits on the drivers side in front of the rear wheels. Many high end coaches such as Bluebird have both the generator and AquaHot exhaust through the roof. A properly maintained AquaHot system may produce an odor on start up, but it will quickly subside. If there is an excessive amount of smoke or diesel fumes then the system is not being maintained properly. The noise level at start up and during operation is about equal to a propane fired furnace.

I recall reading a couple of posts over the years where folks have adapted a Camco Gen-turi generator exhaust deflector to work with their Aqua Hot system. The Gen-turi will vent the fumes above the roof.
  • I don't have one but I don't think it is that much different than the propane water heater or furnace exhaust. Does it smell bad??
