Removing Wax from Fiberglass

What is the best and easiest way to remove built up wax from fiberglass?
  • Suggest you use Dawn Dishwater Detergent.
Another product is called TCP or TSP I think....somebody correct me here.
  • You can use any RV and Marine polish wax which removes the old wax. CW carrries it and it will take about 1 gal per 30 ft of side. This stuff is High $ but will work on a small area.

  • Wash it with laundry soap and warm water, i assume your going to rewax it? If so, use some polishing compound, not rubbing compound. Followed by lots of good quality wax. An electric buffer is handy to do the job quickly.

I'm with hershey and Born to Travel on the Dawn Dishwater Detergent! Zanio, a high end show car polish requires that the wax be removed before Zaino is applied. They say "wash your vehicle thoroughly with Dawn (or comparable) dish soap to remove any wax, grease, and oil from your paint".
  • Any good cleaner wax will do both jobs with one application.

    wax on, wax off, :)
  • Denatured alcohol will remove the wax as well as any contaminants that have accumulated on the surface.
