Removing window for cleaning

Well... this may seem stupid but I am unable to remove the sliding windows from the frame for cleaning.

I mean, I need to clean the bottom tracks. They are full of black messy stuff. I tried to push them upward then pull the bottom, but definitely there's not enough room on the top to pop them out without bending/breaking them.

Is there are known technique ?

Thanks all. I will try the toothbrush/vacuum and all.

FYI, I have never been able to find the Parameters page in which I can edit my Signature and all info... and I am quite familiar with forums... strange.

Maybe This will help.

I have yet to see ANY type RV window built in the past 25 years that can be removed without pulling the complete window and drilling out the rivets to spread the frame. There may be some that by removing the upper and lower felt/track, you can tilt the window out, but you risk breaking that window pane when attempting it. For the OP's description of his window and what he has tried to do, he will have to remove the compete window to do what he wants to do. Doug

We need more information.

If you tell us the make and model, etc of your RV then the people who have one can help you.

The sliding part will come out but you will need to remove the felt channel it rides in to get it out. Open the window fully then pull the felt out of the window frame as much as you can until it meets the open glass. Slide the glass AND THE FELF as if you are closing the window as far as you can. Holding the channel in place and slide the glass back open so the far edge of the window exits the end of the now repositioned felt. Keep repeating until you remove the channel. With the lower felt removed the glass will sit lower in the window frame and the upper edge will clear the top of the frame so the window can be removed.

Keep a second set of hands close by since the window can fall out of the frame as soon as if is clear of the felt and drops deeper into the frame.
If the channel is difficult to slide lube the window frame with some soap which is easy to clean out later.

If they are SE-GI windows there is no felt.

actually pulling it out like this would be my Last option. and only if the felt needed replacing, not just cleaning.

My wife just takes an ole tooth brush and gets the dirt all loose and sucks it right out with the vacuum cleaner.

You'd have to remove the window frame and disassemble it. Probably more hassle than it's worth and then you invite a leak when you put it back together. You try q-tips?

The sliding windows DO NOT come out of the track. It is a safety feature for a moving vehicle, so the windows can't jar out unexpectedly.

I use compressed air or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment.

don''t think they are designed to remove glass panes. can't you just slide them to extreme ends to clean track?
