How to remove bedroom small window valence?

I have a 2011 Voltage 3950. The 'pleather' on all the valences has broken down and is shedding small peices everywhere. We've replaced all the valance material with heavy cloth fabric - except for one window.

All the valences are held on with two screws that go through a couple of L-brackets that are screwed into the wall.

The last one to be taken off is on the small window in the slide. I can't find L-brackets or any other kind of mount.

Can somebody please tell me how this is fastened to the wall or the ceiling???

  • OK, found it. There are three screws that go through the valence into the slide roof. I found one, and DW found the second by cutting the pleather with a utility knife where she guessed it would be (it was!) The valence still wouldn't come down so I did my best Bruce Banner turning green and yanked the valence off. There was a third screw about an inch away from the first one that was visible.

The problem was that the OEM screwed the screws beyond flush and it was impossible to tell where they were. The pleather completely covered the head.

We're going to recover the valence with fabric and screw it back in place. It will last FOREVER (or at least until I'm through RVing).

    Thanks.

PS: I thought I had posted this resolution a week ago but apparently not.

  • is there any fabric that looks like it can be pulled back a bit?  I have seen them hidden under some fabric at the end.

  • Montana RVs use screws in the corners under a flap of valance fabric. It looks like the valance is fitted between the cabinets. I would look for screws there. I would not pry the valance off the wall until I had fully checked everywhere for screws. Remove the drapery and peel off the Pleather down to bare wood if necessary.

  • Is it possible that there are screws in the ends into the cabinets and they glued the fabric over the screw heads? Heck they might even be brads. In my experience, usually things in RVs are not attached to studs and often attached with little thought of staying put for very long. I would also imagine that if they used screws they wouldn't be very long. So, I would opt to gently start prying it away and see what happens. I doubt you'll do any structural damage, what damage is there won't be an aesthetic concern since it will be behind the valance when re-installed. And I would re-install with L brackets in a different spot to get a bite on fresh holes and the ability to remove it later of need be.

  • I just had another look at it with a flashlight and my glasses. Can't see any brackets.

I've used my eyes, mirrors and a camera to try to find it.

You can see from the photo that I've wedged a screwdriver in the top. I moved it all the way across and ran a knife back and forth in the gap - there's no screws anywhere along the top.

I'm thinking of two possibilities: 1) forget about this valence, or 2) tear it out of there with a pry bar on the assumption I'll be able to repair / rebuild it, or 3) glue the fabric over the existing pleather. I'm leaning towards 1).

  • Never seen one that doesn't have an obvious L bracket. Is it possible the bracket is between the end of the valence and the cabinet next to it?
