Replacing 4 6 volt batteries

When I replaced my four at four years I added a Pro Fill system so you can fill all of them every month in a minute or two.

I replaced the 4 house batteries in our Holiday Rambler last June. Trying to find an alternative to the sealed wet type batteries I looked at a large number of styles but was limited by size. No other battery would fit in the tray and under the switch box on the back of the compartment wall. Fortunately direct replacements are still available from Interstate and less expensive than I feared. Be sure to measure the space where they fit to make sure the new ones will fit.

Go thru and estimate what you run off the batteries and how long you want to run it.

Multiply the hours of operation times the amp draw for each item(divide watts by 12 to get amps). Add maybe 25% as a fudge factor. This is the number of amp-hrs you need to supply.

When you buy the batteries, go with 3-4 times the amp-hrs you calculated. The reason is if you use the full rated amp-hrs of the batteries, they don't last very long.

Now that you know what you need pick paired 6v or 12v batteries that fit and have sufficent amp hours.

For cost, 4 six volt GC-2 batteries from Sam's club (if you are a member) Costco (if the store has them and you are a member) or a Golf Car store or Interstate or DEKA battery store if all else fails.

These are basically copies of what you have now

BEFORE YOU START, Take photos, mark all wires hooked to the POSITIVE terminal that do not just connect to another battery with RED tape, nail polish, tape or split loom (ribbed plastic tube with a slot down the length) and the NEGATIVE side with BLACK.

That is correct, series in pairs and those pairs parallel. If you are ever going to consider changing your frig to a residential, I would suggest you bite the bullet now and get AGM's.

Two pair which are in parallel then in series. Four in series would 24 volts

I bought the Costco version of the golf cart battery (4 of them) about 3 years ago and they work just fine, so far. And even if I had to replace them today I'd be money ahead because I only got 5 years out of the last set and I paid twice as much for them.

Feeline, The best size for you will be 220 amp 6 volt deep discharge X 4 in series will give you 440 amps @ 12 volts. This is probably what you had.

Hi,

One 8 D will meet the needs for an overnight stop in winter with lots of furnace use. In the rest of the year it would cover two to three nights especially if lighting is led or florescent.

I think they dropped the Trojans also. I bought 4 of their 6V's this spring but they had 2 different rated batterys. One was $88 and was the lessor the other being $105 each and was 220 watts/hrs. I went with the larger
