Replacing Ice Maker Harvester

I'm going to be replacing the ice maker harvester in my U_Line ice maker and the directions call for using a thermally conductive sealant to bed the harvester in place. Of course the one I'm getting for a replacement does not include any sealant so I'm wondering if that is really necessary or not. I have replaced ice makers before (in the Norcold I had in a prior coach) and there was no mention of a sealant.

So, I'm wondering if:

A) I can do without and accept a slight loss in cube production. or
B) Just pick up some paste/grease that is used for heat sinks.

Thanks for any input.

  • Thanks Scot, just the info I needed. Easy to find once I knew what to look for.
  • You should be able to get the proper sealant at a RV supply or repair place. It will be the same caulk the use when installing a new cooling unit in a propane/elect. fridge.
I dont think heatsink compound is a good choice since it isn't really a sealant.
