Replacing RV skylight

My skylight has some cracks in it which I found while cleaning my roof. I ordered a new one and asked them to also send me the sealant I need to install it. They sent me a tube of siding and gutter sealant and three tubes of Manus-Bond elastomeric adhesive/sealant. I am not sure which I use to attach the skylight to the roof and which to use to cover the screw heads and edges of the skylight. Can anyone help?

  • I,ve replaced a few on tpo, rubber and fiberglass roofs its not hard to do , the one on own now is probably with a putty tape then screwed down and lap sealant over the screws and edges. be carefull taking the old skylite off, take your time , I use a plastic putty knife. The last one I did I used a butyle tape between the roof and the skylite, then put the screws in also you might consider spraying the skylite white to reflect the ultra violet rays from the sun, will double the life of the skylitlife . and always inspect the caulking around the skylite plus othr areas that are subject to leaking....

  • The type of roof might determine what sealer you use. Calling the manufacturer is good advice.
  • Try calling the skylight manufacture. (I got lucky I guess). When I replaced mine it came with a tube of some caulking I never saw before. I called and asked if I could just use Dicor instead of what they included. As I was more comfortable using Dicor. They explained why I shouldn't use Dicor and then gave me all kinds of helpful hints that was not on their literature that made installation better.
