Review of Flow thru tire pressure monitor by TST

We have a Truck System Technology (TST) tire pressure monitoring system for both the MH and the toad.

It works fine except the batteries don't last very long on the sensors. They cannot be changed without having to send them back to the manufacturer. Despite trying to keep one or two for spares, I seem to always be having dead sensors.

Right now, I have 4 out of 10 that are dead.

We're getting tired of dealing with these and are considering purchasing their new system that has user changeable batteries and flow through sensors so that you don't have to take the sensor off to add air.

My question is:

Do any of you have this system (with the new user serviceable monitors with the flow through monitors)? How do you like them? How often do you have to change the batteries? Can you easily add air without having to take the sensor off?

Do they show both temperature and air pressure?
  • OP here

Just an update to let you all know what we did about our TST tire monitoring system.

I sent an email to the company and got a call back from Mike on a Sunday. He thought the problems with our batteries may have been because we have a 41 foot MH and did not have a repeater. I wish someone would have told me this a few years ago...but anyway.

We decided to go with a new system using the 507 Flow Through system for the MH and the non flow through on the truck (toad)

Mike was in north Georgia, and met us half way with the new system. We ended up buying the new system but he gave us a discount. So far, so good. The batteries are user changeable....
  • The first set of sensors I had for our TST were the original ones and most of those lasted over 6 years, with 2 having to be replaced just before the 6 years. they are on the coach all the time. They are not difficult to remove and add air to. I am on the second set of sensors and now and in the 2nd year with no troubles. They have a trade in program for less expensive replacement. It is a good system for most people. If I were to replace the whole system, I might go to the 507 with the replaceable batteries, but am happy with the one we have also. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert
  • I purchased the TST 507RV system last spring and was going to go with the flow-thru design until I found out the sensors extend out much farther than the original design.. I went with the original as I have a toad trailer and the flow-thrus would have extended past the edge of the wheel and could have been easily ruined if you curb a trailer tire.. So far all is good...
  • I purchased the TST system with the flow through sensors when they came about two years ago. All six sensors failed or leaked. The next six failed or leaked. Replaced all of those flow through with the original sensors. Everything works now.

My TST sensor batteries lasted 2 years and I can replace them easily myself. I have the 507 system. The sensors don't use power if you take them off, which I do if I am parked for a period of time.

Mine stay on all the time and don't go dead. They shouldn't use hardly any power if not moving as they go into sleep mode.

They will not go into sleep mode if the monitor is left plugged in. When not in use, the monitor should be turned OFF and unplugged..moving or not....mine last over 12 months of continuous use, except when we are stopped, then the monitor is unplugged but the sensors stay on both vehicles....Dennis

To the OP, I wouldn't spend the extra $$ on the flow through. We full time and use the system usually every week as that's when we travel. I've only re aired my system once this year so far. I lost about 5# in every position due to the warm weather when we left AZ in March and the cold weather we experienced a month ago. Pretty easy to unscrew the sensor put in air. It also gives me the chance to inspect the sensors and more importantly, the rubber seals, for wear and/or damage.....Dennis

If your tires leak bad enough to require air daily or even weekly then they need to be repaired. The regular 507 is all you need, more streamlined than the flow through, and easy enough to remove to air up if needed.

  • I have trouble understanding why you are having battery problems. I am on my third year with same batteries on my tiretraker even though all they take are common replaceable batteries. Maybe its time to change brand rather than model.
  • I have the flo through system. The system works great, batteries have lasted thru two summers.(not much more than a year on the calendar.) Have yet to replace them. The flo thru seem to make adding air a little slower but they do work. They are larger, so they extend out a little farther. Don't know how much trouble it is to remove the original sensors to add air, but if others tell you it's easy, I wouldn't spend the extra for the flo thru again. Yes they show both pressure and temp.
