Roadmaster Even Break Changing Toad

Thanks again for all the help .I did not want to get the coach out of hibernation to get the Even Break. I know they have 3 new even breaks on the shelf so they could pull one off the shelf to run any test that needs to be done .They said they could do this if they had to. Happy New Year to all.

We looked at the 2nd car kits when we couldn't decide which Cherokee to tow, lots of $$ for a little convenience.

What I did was take some 3 pin connectors for the brake signal from the toad, 12V + and - and wire them into each toad and tuck the toad end under the center console, then wired one of the male ends onto the transmitter for the Even Brake. Now I just move the unit from one car to the next (the Wrangler got setup later) and plug in the 3-pin, situate and plug in the breakaway, install the "box" hook up the 7 pin mounted in the bumper run the test and go. I also use the same unit flat towing behind the truck and camper, the unit doesn't care where it is.

That is what I thought because they do have a second car kit and this would be like I still had the Trailbalzer and got the second car kit.About the 12 volt socket we are having one installed a long with the fuse minder so we will have a switch so we do not have to pull the fuse 32 and a new plug installed for power for the Even Break. When you pull the key or open the door you lose the power to the 12 volt power points. It is a pain with the Garmin because it has to be rebooted every time you stop. Why did GM do this my 2006 Trailblazer had power all the time. the Equinox shuts all power to the 12 volt ports in the front. They have one in the trunk that stays hot all the time but what good would that do if you wanted to charge your phone or any outher device.

We bounce our Even Brake between 3 Jeeps, no need for the unit to re pair with the monitor, it's set from the factory and as long as you own it the 2 will work together.

Anyone who can use a multimeter (This of course may well leave out Camping World installers) can check the charging and other circuits without the Brake unit, I did all the wiring on all 3 in the garage making sure all was right before ever plugging them in.

They told me they would just pull off the shelf a new even break to do the test but then the motor home monitor would pair with the new even break. But I think that in the spring we hook it up the first time there is a way to pair the even break to monitor to the motor home. We just got a lot of snow and my coach has been shut down since Oct 24th so I would have to plow through the snow put starting battery in and drive it about 4 ft out of the grand stands at our fair ground to get the even break out. I have a month till we are going to get things installed maybe I can talk the care tacker to open it up and move it out. I am just not sure to start the coach for a few minutes just to move it back and forth 4 ft then shut it down with out driving it around a few miles and get it warmed up. I guess it would not hurt it to do it just this once. The other guy was asking about towing a GM car it is in your owners book under towing . Thanks again for all your help.

If you don't mind me asking what do you need to do to tow that 4 down? And does anyone know about the Traverse. Are there speed limitations on towing them? Do you need to stop and start the engine after so many hours or miles?

They also need to test the brakeaway switch and monitor box with it...also ensure that your power source works with ignition in acc or off position..The lighter turns off with ignition in my Sonic and if I ever switch toads..I need to rewire that or use my portable 12v power..GM cars always had lighters work all the time..this new Sonic the lighter switches off with Acc...

I just installed a new to me EvenBrake, so it would be like switching cars. The problem is, how do they know all the connections are good? Aside from the brake/tail lights that are connected to the Winnebago, the EvenBrake requires wiring from a brake light switch that sends a signal to the box that gets installed in the TOAD, and that sends via radio a signal to the remote and displays the brakes are being applied, as well as an error messages. They will need to test and make sure the connections are all good, and they need the EvenBrake and the EvenBrake remote to do it.
