Roadmaster RR4R suspension upgrade

Does anyone have experience with the Source Engineering suspension upgrade? My MH is a hard ride on rough roads and when hitting seams in the road. The cost of the upgrade is $2300, would like to know if it makes a big difference as advertized.
  • My daughter in Fairbanks, Alaska had it done because of the trailing arms. they have an 05 Safari Cheetah there cost about $6k with arms, new bags, shocks, tank, install, and shipping. They say it rides better.
    If you have not had the arms replaced you need to because if they let go doing 60mph you will be in trouble.

    What is your chassis, also start with the cheap and put softer shocks on..
  • Whatever you do, absolutely, get the new (properly designed) rear trailing arms.

    That is a critical safety item.
  • I have a 2003 Safari Cheetah. The factory replaced the trailing arms twice under warranty. No change in the ride.I replaced the trailing arms with the Source Engineering upgrade and there is a difference in the ride. However, I didn't do the upgrade primarily for the effect on the ride. I upgraded for safety reasons. The Source trailing arms are much stronger & heavier. I tow a 4,500 lb. vehicle and didn't trust the Monaco trailing arms.I was able to see the two sets of trailing arms side by side and there is a significant difference. I have not upgraded the air bags but did go to Koni shocks nd they made abig difference in the ride....no more "porpoising".
  • The trailing arms had already been done, so I did the Source Engineering Ride Enhancement upgrade......I was very disappointed with the upgrade....I could tell very little difference in the ride......I took it back to the installer and they rechecked everything including ride height. The service manager went with me on a test ride and said that was about as good as it would be. Persoanlly I think it was a waste of money.
  • My MH is a 04 Safari Cheetah 40. I will be installing the upgraded trailing arms even though mine look perfect. They are the original arms. The coach only has 27K miles and the first owner had it in a climate controlled garage. the underside looks new.
    Based on the feedback I think I will just do the arms and buy some new shocks such as Koni.

    No question-- the original design WAS defective. There are some that had more than one set of the original design fail.

    When that happens, your rear axle can become a "second steering axle". Something you REALLY don't want to experience.
  • Not sure if you are due for tires soon or not, but my R4R began riding significantly better once I installed Koni shocks and increased the tire size from the stock 255's to a 275/70/22.5 "H" rated tire. This also allowed me to run tire pressures around 95psi. The ride improved enough with those two changes that I would probably not consider the REK at the price they want for it. I am happy with the ride as it is now.

    I did have the source trailing arms put on a few years ago.
