ROOF REPAIR: Calk then roof coat??

Hello all

Im wondering what is the proper procedure in repairing a leaking roof. I know I need to apply some type of epoxy or roof coating or whatever it is according to my roof type, but the real question is that is it ok to calk before I do that? Will the roof coating adhere to the calk?

  • We are extremely happy with an acrylic latex coating installed by http://rvroofing.com/ in Alexandria,MN. They covered all seams with fabric and coated the entire roof with a beautiful white coating that is maintenance free and a ten year warranty.
  • Caulk then recoat. The original roof coating under the old caulk will be in very good condition and if you use correct caulk made for sealing an RV roof the coating will stick to the caulk.

That is the best way. You want the caulk to adhere to the rubber roof, not the thin coating.

Yes, you will then have a good tight water proof seal. Just remember that the caulk might bubble up the rubber roof. You need to wait a week or two to let the rubber roof settle back down prior to laying down the sealer.
