RV 360 Tank Vent

A few months back I drank the Kool Aid and purchased a pair of the 360 Siphon Vents that are being touted all over the RV forums. I installed one on the master bath's black tank roof vent. The installation was very simple as all the need pieces are included in the package. Just add Dicor.

We are out on our first trip since installing the 360 Siphon vent. Each time the toilet is flushed the odors stream into our nostrils. There is NO difference using the 360 Siphon vent vs the original standard OEM vent.

I still have one vent cover in its original package due to Winnebago positioning the 1/2 bath vent in such a place where the 360 will not fit.

I've had good luck with $2 PVC T's for the roof vents... this MH even came with them.
Are you sure you have water in the W/Dyer P trap... especially if you do not have a W/D installed?

    No w/d
  • I only have 1 bath and the blackwater vent was right by the A/C. I had to trim the rotating vent slightly to get it to clear the A/C. Seemed to help. I suspect the vent so close to the A/C can make for a 'positive pressure' at the vent if the wind is blowing where it hits the vent first, then the A/C. Seems like the mfgs should separate them....
  • We have had the RV360 vent cover for several years. It seems to have worked well and holds up dragging our RV cover over it several times per year that the other, rotating types, didn't.
Is there a possiblity that the vent itself is clogged? Or did you have the exhaust fan on when flushing?
  • AS you have found and proved. Adding a 360 roof vent system may not fix the FAILURE of the tank vent system. ALL the 360 does is help remove odors and mask a problem. A properly functioning vent system will NOT allow odors with the standard top hat roof vents. So, you are back to square one on your problem. Doug

True, BUT, if you are PLUMBED for a W/D and the drain pipe is either open(most of the time) and there is no water in the p trap, then you will get odors. If you have a pre plumbed drain system for a W/D, install a plug in the top of the drain pipe after running a qt of water thru it to fill the p trap. VERY common cause of tank odors in an RV when preplumbed for a W/D and no W/D installed. EVEN a cause if a W/D is installed and no water in the P trap due to lack of use of the Washer. Doug
  • The videos show people running their exhaust vent with the toilet valve open and claiming no odor. Not true. I just think it another gadget.
  • There was a guy here that use to build odorless outhouses. He would even guarantee them not to smell. Neighbor hired him. After he built it the neighbor called him up and complained it stunk in there. The guy showed up, examined the outhouse, and said "what do you expect, someone took a **** in there."

An RV black tank ain't much different then an outhouse, other then an airtight seal when the toilet is closed.
