Smith RV, welcome to the forums and many can be pretty tough with their comments... I'm a little surprised you stayed on after the above but he does have a point. Your power band is not at max rpms with a diesel engine, it's actually closer to half that for the most torque making your Allison tranny smarter. The only reason to manually down shift is to increase the rpms for better engine cooling on a long pull. Otherwise it's best to just let the Allison do it's thing.
Sorry, and welcome back.
Yes I understand my Power Band is half my MAX RPM my power band is 2,000 RPM I just don't understand why my RV won't automatically gear down on a Grade so that it does not kill itself. maybe I need to explain. Here is a scenario. RV is on a highway I'm going 70 MPH on 5th or 6th gear at 2,000 RPM I see a small grade ahead I understand I may lose 5-10 MPH but, the engine won't gear down it stays in 6th at 2,000 RPM but the speed goes 70-60-50 and stops at 40 MPH and is still in 6Th gear! Which from all understanding CANNOT be good. But the problem is even at 40 MPH on a grade I'm still at 2,000 RPM. So I gear down to 3rd or 4th my RPM stays in 2,000 but then I'll go to 40-50 and stop at 60 MPH at 2,000 RPM it seems impossible but it's happening. Even going downhill I'll stay at 2,000 RPM and I know my gauge is working because idle RPM is 500. So why is my transmission not gearing down on a grade? I don't let it switch gears automatically because it seems like it will hurt my transmission. But on flat roads my transmission will gear up and gear down fine. Also my transmission does this sometimes and not other. Sometimes I'll go up a grade in 6Th gear and stay at 60 MPH so please answer that question. I'm not trying to be rude I just don't want my transmission to kill itself one day.
P.s you don't have to say sorry about that dudes post. I laughed at it it kinda is true lol. Love your forums there nice and free feeling.
