RV Door Keys??

My Trimark has a different keyway for the locks; the keys won't fit in the other lock. You might be able bug a compatible button.

There are at least three manufacturers of RV door locks; Fasted (FIC), Trimark and Bauer and now the cheap Chinese clones are arriving and they are junk. They all do their locks differently and have changed how they key them through the years.

Its usually possible to add a residential deadbolt to the entrance and you can have it repinned to match your house door, so one less key to carry.

You can buy new plugs for your storage compartments online at websites like rvlocksandmore.com, etc.

They are very easy to pick no matter which pinning you have and they can easily pried open. I actually leave mine unlocked in campgrounds. The damage to the doors would be a bigger pain than replacing a few chairs or a campstove.

There's only so many "combinations" for keys out there. Like mentioned above...I would rather have a bad guy steal what little is in the RV...then have the door destroyed. Probably cheaper.

We had become accustomed to only using the deadbolt to lock the motorhome and we each kept that key on our keyrings and the other full sets of keys in the coach. Took it in for service one time and after we paid and went to get into the coach, the "other" lock was locked. Bummer. We went back inside and a tech came out to look at the lock. He radioed back to someone in the shop and said, "Uh Dave can you bring a "D" key out to the motorhome in the front lot? That's when we found out there are a limited numbers of the same keys for that lock. The deadbolts are different however. We have also learned that this is common practice at service lots to only lock that common lock because they do have the keys for them.

The dead bolt in our front door was a VERY CHEAP copy of the standard entry level Kwikset Residential deadbolt and was becoming worn, so I changed the deadbolt to a mid-priced Schlege deadbolt. A perfect fit in the door, including the 1" round, drive in bolt. I did have to drill the hole for the bolt about a half inch deeper into the square steel framing stud. I keyed it to match the entry door for our house and condo. I did have to remove the stupid "one handed" installation pieces because they wouldn't slip into the fiberglass door skin. One less ket on the keyring.

same on my TT. they were recalled by FIC who sent a "master key" to it must be hundreds/thousands of people in the recall. and I changed out the 751s on the compartments immediately on mine.
