I plugged mine with hot glue when it started to leak

Those plastics don't take any popular glue too well, so chances are it will come off sooner or later. You WILL know ;)
Coming to backflow in RV, even if you drop the shower into tub or bucket with dirty water and pump fails, your pump has check valve that will prevent back flow.
Campground hookups have BFP on their own.
I've been dealing with construction/plumbing in CA for almost 30 years, installed thousands of BFP valves and still have yet to see one needed/used.
IMHO it is next to buying an insurance for Los Angeles -Maui bridge collapse.

Yes it is a vacuum breaker/back flow preventor because that same style faucet is used for tubs where dirty/funky bath water 'could' get in.

As used in an RV shower......
Replace it with a 'd-spud adapter', plug it with glue, plastic weld it closed etc.

It should only leak water out of hole when you turn water off. Leaking all the time it is not working correctly anyway.

That hole is because of a vacuum breaker/back flow preventer.. You should not block it, Sorry.

I wound up replacing the faucet when mine started leaking (i Figured out later how to fix it) the replacement (only one I could find) was for a tub/shower so the thing falls back to "Tub" when it needs to break vacuum.. NO restriction on flow when in SHOWER position.. I like it better for several reasons.. That is one.

Sounds like your flapper is missing and since you don't care about back flow prevention, I would be tempted to fit brass, or SS screw into the hole.

The device is a vacuum breaker that's designed to prevent contaminated water from back flowing into the fresh water supply by allowing the water in the hose to dripple out the hole when the faucets are turned off. Since I have no idea how the water in the hose would get contaminated, and the new handheld shower head in our cottage didn't even come with or require this device, I removed it and replaced it with a "D-spud adapter" that does not have the dribble hole.

when I worked at the rv dealer, we sold them as a replacement. check the local dealers, if they don't have them on the shelf, they can order you one.
