Shower Sky Light

2006 Tioga 30SL I have already replaced the Skylite once. Has anyone coated theres with anything to help prolong the life of them. I was thinking of something like the 3M Rubberized Undercoationg. Would it stick to the plastic if I cleaned it properly first? It would help to keep the heat out also. Any Ideas.

Trying to save a couple bucks on some thing that takes hours to fix and can screw up a trip just never works for me. Get the best and fix it once. Finding the best can be a big job. I have installed a couple of these for friends and none have had problems except the guy that decided to haul drift wood home on the roof of his motorhome. But thats another story..

That LINK above is the place I was thinking of. Bookmarked it this time! The ordinary ones are cheap. Spending a little more seems like a good idea considering labor to change one and he problems that can happen if one breaks on a trip.

As far as the heat what we did was pickup some hard velcro pieces we put under the screws in the corners inside and we cut one of those car windshield covers in aluminum to fit and hand sew velcro to the corners. We then use it to keep the sun out. Several of my friends have put those foam things that stuff up in the skylight and they have all cracked. To much heat so needs to vent. Our roof dome is 13 years old and sets in the hot sun in high temps all summer. We also make covers like that for the door window for storage or if parked with the sun coming in that side.

No,but that doesnt matter to me. Just looking to prolong the life of the dome and help keep the heat out.

The skylight is more function than form for this very reason. Quite a few manufacturers place the shower over the wheel well which means that the shower is going to be higher than the floor. The only way to accommodate taller individuals is to cut a hole in the roof, put a plastic dome on it, and voila! A feature! 🙂

There's a company offering domes in a higher grade of material. gOOgle search might find it.

It will always craze over with time. They start out clear and end up a milky yellowish as time goes on. Nothing you can do about it, other than to start with a white one versus clear.

I sure wish they wouldn't put these plastic domes in RVs.

I haven't tried it but maybe 303 Aerospace Protectant would help.
