Sky Light Replacement

2009 Monaco Night 41 ft trying to replace the sky light.can't figure out what kind of screws they used they look like large rivets, has anyone been through this before?
  • My Monaco skylight was held with pan head Phillips screws. Are you sure that the Phillips slots in the screw heads aren't just filled with sealant.
  • Buy stainless screws and replace by hand not a screw gun to keep from stripping them out.
  • They could be rusted down and the slot is gone or filled with sealant. The last one I replaced that was the case. I bought stainless steel screws and put them in by hand when replacing. I went overboard sealing it by putting a bead of the caulk-tape like you use to mount a window underneath, then a bead of Dicor caulk over all of the screws and around the edge and followed up with Eternabond tape going all the way around to make sure it was sealed.
We are thinking of ordering our next RV new and having them leave the skylight out as it is nothing but cheap plastic that gets brittle and cracks causing another potential leak.
  • I replaced mine and an important step is to clean the mounting edge to remove the mold wax.
  • Mine did have pop rivets when I called the Co. they told me to just drill them out. when I did that the holes were bigger so I used the next size screws.
