I've observed that there are many many people who simply cannot tolerate anyone "breaking the rules", living outside of the system, no matter how harmless or inconsequential to others. A recent post regarding Big Bend NP gave a snapshot of that, with posters lining up on both sides of the issue at hand. At some point it is inevitable that such a person will be in a position of authority to run Slab City out, and will do it.
