So It Begins

We took our first tentative steps forward towards upgrading from a Montana 32RLTfifth wheel towards a Class A. Our 2005 Chevrolet 2500 Silverado HD will need replacement sometime soon. Not immediately, but eventually. Its limited gas tank size has always been a restrictive burden. And the fifth wheel would better meet our needs and expectations with a built in generator/upgraded electrical storage system.

The way we are seeing it, or talking ourselves into it, we can invest money into more of the same, which is not unsatisfactory, or move forward into a final upgrade.

Today started with going to the NH Campground Show, with the hopes of our first touring of Class A MotorHomes. Alas, due to interior facility restrictions, there were no Motor Homes. There was parking lot space in front that could have been used, but was not. So there were no onsite motorhomes.

A few of the dealers were spoken with. Intentions were expressed towards possible follow-on on-site visits. Yes, this needs to be and will be done over time.

On the way home, by pure serendipity, we drove by a Class A consignment dealer. On a whim, we turned back around for a visit. And we are glad we did. This dealer offered value in the consignment marker. We looked at two Winnebago disels, one Bounder gasser, and an Allegro. All were modestly mileage, perhaps a bit dated on technology side - nothing that can't be upgraded, and value priced. The dealer was nonintrusively informative. We were encouraged by this visit.

This journey has only just begun.
  • Three years ago we traded our truck and Montana for a 38' Georgetown gasser. Very happy with the new coach. We summer in Boothbay and can park the RV at our cottage. Friends tell us the winter has been a b.... Won't get up there until late May. Hope my plants and shrubs survived.
  • I think you will find that most of the RV shows in the northeast will have very few motorhomes, both gas and diesel. If you are not in a hurry to buy now, make it a point to go the Hershey, PA show in Sept, but be prepared to be overwhelmed with the selection. Good luck and enjoy your search.

  • Invest is one word that should not be used in connection with any RV. Enjoyment or some other word; not invest.
