The Verdic is in, New Ford 7.3 V-8 Gas mpg not so Great

Yea Tim, I would of thought that 10 speed tranny would of made some difference, but like they said they couldn't get into max overdrive with that load. I'd like to see a test with a more realistic load. The other issue is they lost a little power and mpg by going back to port injection. There have been serious issues with direct injection. I'm not even a little surprised. BTUs are BTUs. Big trucks with big engines use a lot of fuel, nothing new there. The real test will be how well does it do in MH duty. My guess is it will be a real nice improvement.

Fuel mileage, and RVing do NOT belong in the same sentence. Gonna play. you got to pay.

Go look at the guys with the 3.5 ecoboost...does great with an empty truck but load it and it does about the same as the V8.

Why? It takes fuel to develop power and when putting out a significant percentage of rated power, engines have been optimized for a long time...not a lot of improvement available.

I am more interested in driving dynamics over fuel mileage. If it got the EXACT same mileage with improved driving characteristics, I would be happy.

With the newer 10 speed and the new 7.3 I would expect better mileage, at least 1 mpg better. I got better with my 02 V-10 Excursion.

I personally would hope for better drive ability and mileage. Anything less is unacceptable.

If Ford wants to do something good for the F53 then replace the front solid axle with independent and offer an air ride option.

I'm disappointed to read the F53 will retain the 6 speed.
