Thinking of switching....

Currently have a 29' fiver and am thinking of going to a class C. Probably in the 28-30' range. Would like at least one slide(BR) and possibly a 2nd one. In looking at different manufacturers, it appears that Jayco makes a good product(with Seneca being the very top $$$)...Just wondering who has a good reputation for making a good class C....I know most are built on a Ford 450....we will probably have a small toad(Pontiac Vibe)....

Its how many pounds of 'stuff' you can put into the coach. People, water, stuff, etc. The only thing you don't subtract is chassis fluids (gas), and propane. Anything else you add including your patookis goes against the OCCC.

It gets further complicated by the axle ratings. Front Axle + Rear Axle = total carrying weight. Its possible to be UNDER the OCCC of your rig but over a axle (typically the rear). Esp. in a already porky coach as its almost impossible to overload or shift meaningful weight to the front axle.

Case in point, if you had 1600 pounds of OCCC, its highly possible that 1000 of those pounds is left on the front axle. Leaving only 600 pounds of play for 'stuff' that would go in between the axles or worse, behind the rear axle.

Safe yourself a potentially expensive mistake and make sure you're squared up with your weights before you end up with a bad surprise after you've signed all your papers.

Don't ask me how I know.
  • I have a forest River Sunseeker 32 foot, 2 slides and has the best floor plan for what I was looking for. I have the bunk house model and my 6 th grandchild on the way. I have had it for 2 years and love it. Take your time and find the one that fits you best.
  • Take a look at the Nexus line. Very high quality, feature rich at a factory direct price. Yes I am a tad bias, just pulled into the Nexus factory in Elkhart to have them mount my spare tire under the rear of the coach. This will free up the rear bumper for my two bike rack. Other than that nothing else needed, 21,000 miles on our Phantom 23P(24') with 4,600 miles (so far). This trip with zero issues.

    :B

  • Jayco Greyhawks are excellent as far as comfort is concerned. High quality cabinetry and fixtures, etc.

Just be aware that all that higher end stuff weighs more, and Greyhawks often end up quite 'porky'. Its not uncommon to see them with less than 1600 pounds OCCC left ... I was 4th and inches from buying one myself but pulled out due to the meager OCCC allowance in the coach. My Winnie has less content, but 1300 pounds MORE OCCC than the Greyhawk I was considering. Of course my toilet is plastic, not ceramic. Plenty of differences abound, but I can pretty much load mine up w/o worrying a whole lot. It was the trade-off I was willing to make.

Just be warned and check the yellow sticker on anything you buy.
