What can anyone tell me about the Thor Coaches. What quality of their coaches. Anyone out there looked at the new Axis. I have looked at the Axis only in pictures. Small class A but something I'm looking for. Any help appreciated.

Anyone compared these to a Forest River FR3 25 (actually it's 26'10") they look similar with a larger bath... but seem to be a foot higher and wider?

We compared the 25ft FR3 next to a Vegas next to an a Via. We went with the Vegas.

The FR3 is much roomier then the Vegas or Via but the bed over the cab seats is of a horrible design. It is held up with some magnets and you have to break it from each time you lower it and while at the dealer I thought I broke the bed a few times. The FR3 does not fit in a 25ft parking space where as the Vegas/Via does.

I liked the Via as its more upscale but the sofa bed is much smaller then the sofa in the Vegas. On top of that even with the slide out it felt smaller in the living area then the Vegas.

IMO the Vegas/Axis is the best 25ft RV on the market right now for the money.

thor says 188 inch wheelbase in specs but the e-350 does not really match.

the specs actually match better with the F-59 except for the gas tank.
i think all these specs are slightly off or a mishmash of several ford chassis.

The E350 stripped chassis specs show wheelbases of: 138, 158 and 176.

Everywhere you read about the Axis says wheelbase = 188".
So, perhaps the chassis has been stretched?

Adding confusion, found this photo of a sticker in an Axis on a dealer website that seems to indicate the chassis (at least started out?) as a 158" wheelbase (image #72):Thor Axis Incomplete Vehicle Sticker

Just curious, how is a class A built on a van chassis? Does Thor buy with the cab and remove it? Can the E-350 be bought without the cab?
They buy one of these: http://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/strippedchassis/

Thanks wny_pat. I had stumbled across that looking for info on the F53 chassis and noticed the E350/450 stripped chassis. I should have came back and posted that I'd found answer.

Thanks again for reply!!!

We liked the FR3,especially the walk around king. The two deal breakers for us were its width and the mandatory dinette. We also felt the doghouse made it much more difficult to access the driver seat than in the Axis. Because of its extra length and width it did feel roomier than the Axis.

FR3 are supposed to be ACE equivalents

Seems to me they are selling at a premium to the ACE. We got our 29.2 for about 70k with all options except paint. They had a Axis at the dealer but it was too short for us. I would call it a great rig to travel in but once I got there I would need some other accommodations. They target it to the weekender and that's about right. Thor also has a history of putting product on the line before all the bugs are worked out. IMHO

I agree but just as a 40 foot diesel pusher isn't for everyone either. having come from a Class C motorhome I can definitely see where thor will sell a lot of these. My parents were in the market for a short motorhome in order to tow their pontoon boat and this fit the bill perfectly.

I'm curious if anyone has looked at or bought one of these. It has a nice size to it, and the single slide is good enough for weekend camping, but still trying to attempt to fit in a single parking space.

Of course, the price is right. MPG-wise, I'm not expecting anything more than 12-13, but the price difference between it versus a Winnebago VIA can buy a lot of gasoline as a consolation prize.

TPO roof-you said you wouldn't buy anything but fiberglass.

I researched TPO. excellent roof

They are going for a hair over $72 at MHS near Fort Worth.

The dealer expects the price to stay near that for a while - i.e. several months.

My parents picked theirs up thursday after the Raritan Center show. Really cool coach. There is an accordian between the bedroom and the bath, the shower is a bit small, and the shower controls are on the sink faucet. A little odd at first sight but works out just fine. The winshield isn't a problem at all, the power sunshade in the front is a very nice feature. Storage is pretty good too, even some storage under the driver side rear bed. The stow away tables store behind the hide a bed sofa. They really thought this coach out. Kinda wish the passenger laptop desk flipped bot ways and had storage underneath. Driving position is the same as our A. Handles really well. Pretty quiet, it doesn't have the traditional doghouse as our A but there is a step down to the living area. It's really quite roomy with the slide out. My parents, the wife and I along with our 6 and 8 year old boys had no problem on a day trip. Easily could have slept too. Seriously a nice coach. They went with the Axis, the vegas was as my wife said a little gaudy. We preferred the headlights on the Axis.

We have had our Axis for a week! Downsized from a large class A. Handles nicely! Have some warranty issues, but once they are fixed we should be happy campers!!

Can you give us some idea what your warrantee issues are like? A little unnerving to have them in the first week after delivery...
