I have been on I 15 in Utah with my car where the speed limit is 80.

I have had Motor Homes towing 4 down pass me.

That was probably for a normal DL. Driving large rigs like ours requires different skills. The video is correct regardless of what CA says.

Just because some test aimed at the masses provides the "official" party line doesn't make the information technically correct. I ran into similar problems with the AARP driver safety class. Some flat out demonstrably incorrect answers provided in their literature

Mike, you are 100% correct. If people actually read the literature and specifications published for tires in RV application they would see 75 mph Max.

This Max is not an average or most of the time but 100% of the time

Tire max speed is much like the Max RPM for your engine. While it may be possible to exceed the limit everyone knows that you would be consuming massive amounts of the finite life of your engine to go beyond its red line limit.

I have never covered my tires. Depending on circumstances, I either use my coach most of the year (like snowbird runs to Fl or AZ) or it sits all winter. \

I have always run Goodyear tires (came with the coach...I have no reason to move to another brand) and they claim an additive in the RV tire that blocks UV rays, etc., etc..

I do get new tires tho, every 7 years or around 25 thousand miles or so (sometimes longer) when the ride itself becomes uncomfortable. (tires become hard)Plenty of thread left, tho....

GM, I cover the tires if we are staying for a week or more. I keep 303 Protectant on them to shield the sun rays. I will replace the tires at 7 yrs. from the date code.

Our previous tires were 7 yrs. old (previous coach) and I received $50 each for them at the tire store (8x$50=$400). I'm sure they will be resold to someone for trailer use. At 7 yrs. old with 57,000 miles on them, they still had a lot of 'light duty' life in them.

What's everyone's take on covering tires? I haven't seen a tire under 8 years old that looks deteriorated whether it's been covered or not. When we got our MH last year, a 2004, it only had 9K miles on it. I don't think the tires had ever been covered and they looked new (were original). We replaced them immediately. Myself, I'd never trust a tire older than 8 years on my MH.

I had a blowout several days ago on the passengers front. I have a 94 Newmar Mountainaire, 38 feet, I think. It had a product installed called Steer Safe. Wow! I am a believer in that thing. It was almost a pleasure guiding it to the side of the road. I would never have believed it unless I had experienced it. I got out and walked all around the rig cause I just knew it was a back tire that blew and I thought sure it was one of the duals. I was shocked to see it was my front tire. Now I am going to buy a new set of tires for my old girl.

the Harley Davidson safety course is consistent with the California recommendation to ride in the center. Reasoning was left of center has less reaction time to oncoming idiots, right of center encourages idiots crowding from the rear. The recommendation is based on all other conditions being equal, which when they are not calls for a different path

Yeah, that's fun...especially after it has rained. You'd be riding on a water/oil slick.

I spent a lot of years as a Police motor jock. Never ride the center for reasons stated. It's left track for me since it leave me more room for an out if needed.
