Tire prices: a current sample in Boise area

The Goodyears on my 08 Itasca 30B have about self-destructed with rivering et al at 30k miles so I'm replacing the four back 245/70R19.5 before a circuit of the country. (the front two G670’s were done at 20k but I was pleased with the Bridgestone R250’s that replaced them). Thanks to a previous post the following names were offered and I called them yesterday.

This post is just a general FYI that may be of interest to other forum members facing similar tire decisions. I'm leaning toward the Hankook but any additional useful info is certainly appreciated.

  • Had 4 Hankook 245/70R19.5 A11 installed at Bruneel Tire yesterday.

Date codes on all were in Feb 2013. Tires looked good, no evidence of being stored outdoors.

Felt good on short highway trip. 14PR G rated.

    Several surprises:

Made in China. If I had known that, I'd have chosen another tire. I knew that Hankook have a number of factories in different countries but I thought it was reported that this size was made in a democratic country. However I didn't specify that to Bruneel, and they ordered the tires in so I felt it only right to honor my order.

When I asked about warranty, they said they had none on these tires. Upon further discussion, they said only the Hankook factory warranty stated on the Hankook site. I read that warranty and was OK with it.

I tried to sell the take-off's on Craigs List for $50 each but got no interest so I was going to give them to a friend. However, when I told Bruneel that a friend would pick them up, they said they figured $20/tire into my price to keep them for retreading and resale. This may be worth bringing up when negotiating price if planning to keep/sell the take-offs.

Lastly, they wrote $1350 plus tax on the work order. I reminded that they quoted $1350 "out the door" and they honored that quote.

Summary: Would recommend Bruneel, good price, good service, did what they said on-time. Properly torqued lug nuts - not over or under.
  • If you are interested there is a market for our used tires, I listed my old ones on craigslist and sold them. Not a lot but better then nothing

I had my tires replaced on my MH at Les Schwab in Nampa ID. 3 months ago. It took them 5 1/2 hrs and had several problems getting them to do the job right. I had them install balancing beads in the tires and told them to pull the old lead weights off 2 separate times they still left one on the front tire that I had to pull off myself after going down the road and having severe tire shake on the front end. I wrote a letter to customer complaint and they never got back with me (not a good way to run a business)so every time someone asks about Les Schwab I will let them know about the nightmare that I had.
This post reflects what has become the norm for Les Schwab, since the founder is no longer in the drivers seat. The one in Meridian on Main St has about the worst reputation of all the stores in Idaho. We used to use them almost exclusively but no more.

  • We're also looking for new 295/80 R22.5's. We're in MT right now, but will give Bruneel a call, and compare with prices here in MT. Thanks for your post!
  • For the rear...honestly, I would probably look into Bandag.
  • My 06 Revolution uses G 670 RV, 295/80/R225. I was quoted a price from a local dealer for Bridgstone's and he was a couple of thousand less than either Michelin or goodyear. One price I had for goodyear was $4,800,( Six tires.) Out the door. I am thinking I may have to trade for one of those old Covered Wagons our ancestors crossed the country in.:B
  • Thanks for the suggestion about Samson. I'll look into those.

Now we are where we live in FL but we fly out to Meridian in a week to our summer home (where we've been keeping the RV). 'Will put tires on it there and then drive it back to FL via Glacier, then Rt 2 across MT and ND, visit friends in MN & WI, drive Rt6 across PA and then to Newport, RI and eventually back to FL. We want the RV handy for music festivals in the south until next summer.
  • spotrot...I see you live in Florida.

The places you listed are in Idaho.

Are you on the trip already?
  • Those prices, plus the good service, is the reason I use the Bruneel Tire store on Meridian, which is also, just a mile from the house. He will have Samson tires for an even better price and that is what is going on my motorhome next.
