Tires for a class c

I dropped the ball on this one! The first thing should be thought about is valve stems. Are the current valve stems accessible or can some improvement be made in this area?

I am not a big fan of extenders so better to put proper stems on when replacing tires.

Hopefully not stepping on any Good Sam toes here, but FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) had a screaming deal with Michelin on tires for their members. Many people join just for a year when they need tires.

Michelin tires are very prone to sidewall cracking early in life. I have 3 year old Firestones on mine right now but before I bought the MH was researching and found the Bridgestone Durvis 250 to have excellent reviews on the several sites I looked at.

Common wisdom is that RV tires should be replaced if over 4 years old and there is obvious sidewall cracking. My gut says that tires on an RV, that is driven frequently and kept covered when not driven, will last longer and remain safer than those on a rig that is driven once or twice per year with tires baking in the sun. Appearance and tread depth are not a reliable indicator of safety in RV tires. One blowout with flailing steel belt, can damage your rig and ruin your trip or worse.

Off topic but might be useful to the OP. In VA it is up to the county to decide if your RV is taxed a real property or as a car. This has an effect on the charge for Personal Property Tax (PPT). The RV is taxed based on where it is stored. I do not know how your county taxes RV's, but Prince William Co, where my RV is stored, taxes as Real Property; where as Fairfax, taxes RV and Motorhomes as the cars the vehicle is based on. For now it is less expensive for me to store the RV in another county (also easier for us). As the RV gets older the monthly rental fee may grow to be more than the PPT and then we will have to decide if it is better to have a drive way for the cars or the RV. We have a early 1960's home with a drive way that is as wide as my 2007 RV.

I live in northern VA not to far from Washington DC. When I purchased my RV four years ago the tires were near the end of the life based on years not miles according to the date codes on the tires. I opted to install Michelin tires.
I purchased them from Albin Tire, a local dealership. Almost a year later the Michelin had a recall on the tires and were replacing them with a newer version (M&S2). I called Albin when I first heard, they checked my purchase (I had the receipt and registered with Michelin). I was able to get a tire replacement done early in the recall while others had to wait. Albin main business is with trucks and busses. They will also do the Virginia annual safety inspection.

I am very happy with the new Michelin tires and am in a position to compare new Michelin against the new second generation of the same tire. The new tires are not showing the problems (three years old now) the earlier tires were known for. They also ride better (again comparing new - 10months -vs new; not old tire vs new tire).

If you do need new tires, now would be a good time to install the extra long valve stems from Borg or the TireMan.

Check the plate on the door to see what is required for you Class C, some go as high as 225 R70 x 19.5 load range G. Make sure you get at least what is required for your coach.

Tire brand opinions are subjective - do your research and figure out which tire you want. Tire date is less subjective so once you figure out what brand you want call around and get the best price - then tell the seller you want tires that are less than X months old. In my case I waited an extra 5 days for delivery.
