That's what I did. Since you have to remove the toilet and turn it over to replace the ball assembly -- with no assurance that it will hold water when you're done -- I decided to just get a new one (about $300).

So if the bowl is now removed, the spring also taken off and yet the ball is still having trouble slide back and fourth does that mean that the ball and/ or cam shaft is bad ? What else could it be with everything taken off or apart ? I can move the ball with my fingers( in a glove) but using the pedal it cuts like its stuck and is hard to open and close ?

Thank you, I think that is my model number and type as it sounds like what I was looking at. I just wanted to make sure it didn't take a press to to the new part in or not.
Do the newer toilets use something different then the ball flush ?

If that is a sealand 110 or 111 type (Ball flush) you have to remove not only the bowel from the base but the base from the floor as well.

After that it is very easy. Pull a screw, Tap the end of the shaft gently to force it into the base.. Remove it, Remove the ball, drop in new ball, new shaft and new screw.. Very easy.. I do not recall if the new shaft and spring cart were in the kit (Think they were but not sure)

I fixed ours by just replacing it with a Thetford "Style II" works great now and not much hassle and messing around. Glad I got rid of the original no count loser stool.... :) Replacement cost no big deal and now warranty in force. Cost around $156 online.

OnEdit: I will admit that they all seem to suffer from certain water supply problems. Ours doesn't like the high calcium content in the Rio Grande Valley water. The Thetford however is easier to change the seal if needed and the ball seems to work well all the time unless calcium buildup occurs. (about every 1.5 to 2 years of use for us.)

We had problems with ours and when I took it out I tighten up all the bolts and screws,
Come to find out some are suppose to be a little loose so parts can move.

Oops I'm so sorry,
It's a older Bounder with a travelers toilet with a Porcelain bowl...

Kind of hard for anyone to reply without knowing the manufacturer and model of your toilet.
