Toyota Winnebago Warior 22'

Does anyone on this forum own a Toyota V6 EFI engine? When
did you change the timing belt? We had ours checked, and
was advised it looked good. But I want to travel to Alaska,
and do not want to have the belt break that far away from
a dealer or repairman.

Thanks.

Terry
  • Hi--we are on our third one over the past twenty years. Current Toy is a 1992 Itasca with the 3.0 V-6. Guess you can tell we love them! We change the timing belt and hoses every 60K miles. The engine is non-interference so the belt breaking will not do damage, but why take the chance? We also have the water pump changed at the same time. Rock on and enjoy Alaska in your Toyhome!
  • Toy Winnie, I had one 10 years or so ago. Great little MH. I would change the belt and water pump plus all the rad hoses. I never changed mine but it only had 21,000 miles on it when I sold it
  • We had one changed in the daughters 4 Runner last Christmas. I believe it is every 75,000 miles (not 100% sure anymore)
They have a high fail rate. I would change it out before I took a trip like that.
  • Looking good and being good can be two different things. Change interval is usually 60k on Toyota's, I believe. And change the water pump while you are in there. Towns can be few, and far between on the Alcan. ( and may not even have the parts, could take days to get them) if the town is small enough. Cell phone coverage is spotty, tow bill expensive, not to mention hours spent roadside waiting for help

In my opinion heading up to Alaska, with a questionable belt and water pump would be a poor choice
