Unfortunately the reason I own a TPMS system is because I had a blowout on a toad (my brothers car) and went about a mile before realizing it had happened and only knew about it because a passenger in the back of the coach 'heard something strange'. I saw nothing on the rear view camera that indicated I had an issue. the tire was gone and the rim was damaged.

I bought my TPMS system the day after that event!

I use the TST 507 with non flow thru sensors and have been pleased. I did not include the toad just the eight coach tires. Check Tweety's RV Parts & Accessories.

The systems may be expensive, but being warned of a flat tire on your rig may prevent thousands of dollars in repairs. We took a nail in an outside dually on the rear of our Phaeton once when the tires were just 2 years old. Totally unexpected. Were able to get to a safe place and have the tire repaired and put back on. We would never have known it was going flat without the warning system and could have experienced a lot of damage.

We have a 10-tire system for our motorhome + toad and use the toad sensors while we are out driving around. When we replaced our system with an upgraded version, we put the older set on our little motorhome so we are protected no matter which rig we are driving.

I got a 10 sensor unit for my last coach and wouldn't you know it, my next coach had a tag. Had to buy another monitor for 12 wheels plus two new sensors.

If you even "think" you might be trading up in the future, I'd go ahead and get a 12 wheel unit and save a bunch of $$ later on.

Correct, the on-vehicle system is not active when you are towing it.

You need the 10 sensor system.

Amazon has the 6 wheel non flow thru 507 system new for $309. My Frontier has a tpms and I realize it won't do me any good while towing.
