Travel on US64 from Franklin, NC, west

US 64 over the mountains isn't too bad but the grades may slow you down a bit. In Murphy, the changes to US 74/64 as you head into Tennessee. The stretch in the Ocoee whitewater area is very twisty but not impossible. You shouldn't have a problem but it is narrow and very curvey. After that, no problems to I-75.

There is a good pull a few miles out of Franklin... Otherwise it's a nice scenic drive. In the gorge they improved several of the curves making it a lot easier. I use 64 all of the time. Another option would be 23 through the Nataha gorge to Andrews and Murphy and then you would join back up with 64 before you get to Tennessee. No climbs on that route.

We did 23 south through gainesville from talullah gorge to get from the state park too stone mountain (without the camper.) If you're going south that's a straighter shot but 64 is a lot prettier.

I did it last fall. There are two really long, steep grades but the road is very good except right along the Ocoee River where it still isn't bad. It just gets more old school narrow and windy. I was pulling a 19 foot hideout TT with a ram 1500 and a small V-8. The grades where second gear affairs but the curves were easy enough. Take it slow through that river stretch though; if you come up on an oncoming big rig they may be in your lane.

The only big issue is if the white water rafting is going strong; the bus traffic is pretty heavy and cars park all along the shoulder. Still enough room to get trough, but a pain. You're no bigger than a school bus, are you? They fly and have no trouble.

Are you going north or south on 75?

I've never done it (64 west) but it looks do-able. I went to Franklin from interstate 40 through Gatlinburg over the mountain and down 411. I take it you want to go South on 75. 23 south out of Franklin was straight and goes towards Atlanta.

DO NOT go 129 from NC to TN!!!!!

Just take you time - Beautiful drive - But its been a few years so can't attest to the road condition.
