My husband likes to eat while he is driving, and our center console is too far away from the driver's seat and too small to conveniently hold dinner.Does anyone know of any type of tray that would attach to the driver door, or steering wheel (which doesn't sound very safe!) or extend from the floor to make eating while driving more convenient?And yes, I do tell him that it would be more civilized if we stopped and enjoyed a leisurely meal at a rest stop...to no avail!

If your husband can't stop for a few minutes to eat he needs more than a tray. Please post all routes traveled so i can avoid them.

I think one question you need to consider is, do I want to explain to the police officer is that we crossed the center line and collided due to dropped dinner...Really, it sounds like you guys are considering making your driving area more like a table. It does not sound like a good idea.

Do not do anything to help with this behavior. Distracted driving can cost you your life.

There really isn't anything that will hold food and drink from the door or steering wheel that could be used to eat while driving.It's possible you could find or make a floor console with a dropped top to place next to his seat on the right side. The dropped top should be set in from the edges so the food won't fall off the console.I would also limit the types of meals he eats while driving to those he can easily pick up and put down (think fast food restaurant food - nothing requiring a plate, fork, spoon, or knife).

I think we are all guilty of having a cup of coffee, snack or sandwich when we travel. Boat supply companies sell pedistal tables with a mount that screws to the floor, a post sits in the mount and a table top with cup holder indentations. Three pieces. The floor mounts are available either as a raised cone or a base that is flush mount with the floor between driver and passenger seats. You can take post and table top away when not in use. Anything but an attachment to the steering wheel. I don't feel the need to be constantly driving so we stop to actually enjoy a break and a sandwich. Hope you can change his mind.

I am a member of a number of boards in a number of different pastimes. I doubt if anyone would be surprised if I said this behavior is almost universal. Bashing and half bake uninformed opinions seem to be the general standard. What ever happened to civility.

I would be surprised if we ever hear back from the OP after all the unnecessary bashing but just in case we do, Country Coach built in just such a tray in many of their coaches including their Prevost conversions.
If you follow this link you can go down 2 or 3 pictures and you will see the table sitting on the dash. It just swings over and sits beside the driver so he would have access to most anything think he likes.

If anyone was surprised by the rough treatment the OP received they must be new here. I saw it coming before I clicked on the link. What can we bash our fellow RV'ers for next? Here are some suggestions:

1) Not wearing seat belts in the living area while in motion.
2) Sleeping in the bed while in motion.
3) camping at Wallyworld
4) Buying an expensive coach but being "thrifty" / complaining about gas prices / etc
5) Driving too fast
6) Using the bathroom while in motion
7) running the furnace while in motion
8) running the furnace while fueling up

Discuss.
