Trying to choose

That's ok Mike you would have been disappointed with the performance of the diesel compared to the V-10.

We went and saw the Coachmen and I don't think its for us. Looks like there's been water leakage in a couple places plus some damage on the drivers side including a couple cracks a few inches long. Just not what we are looking for, the dealer kept telling us what a deal it was lol

Well here's some of the specs on the Allegro (copied from website)....Low miles at only 78,000 ( thats only 5500 miles a year) This Allegro is built on a super duty Ford chassis with the 6.8 liter Triton V-10 that produces 305 horsepower and 420 lb / ft of torque Plus has the upgrade banks power pack for more torque and horsepower.

I don't have the same on the diesel, maybe later today, but from what I found out this model came with either a 235hp or a 275hp engine. I do know its on a Freightliner chassis with air bags and air brakes

Mine now has a V8 460ci in it rated at 255hp and 405ft/lbs torque to compare.

Edit...Just found out the Coachmen has a 275hp engine. Dealer says it has some delam and some body damage and "above average exposure" (no wonder he avoided my questions) I'm headed out to lay eyes on it now so we'll see, but it sounds less desirable now.

For me I would look at the HP to wt ratio of each MH. If they are similar and the rest of the MH is comparable I would probably favor the diesel. If they have about the same HP but the diesel is 15,000 lbs heavier you may not like the performance of the diesel when climbing a hill. If you post the actual engs and the wt of each MH I am sure someone that has had the same eng chassis setup will comment in more detail.

Good info Fred, thanks. I feel I can do all my own maintenance, I do now on everything we own.

I do my own maintenance, and I don't find my freightliner diesel much more expensive than my first motorhome on the Ford F-53 chassis.

Have you factored in the normal maintenance costs of a DP? Can run considerably more just for normal things like oil/lube/filter, fuel and air filter plus (depending on the chassis options) you might be getting into the world of air bags, dryers etc. Just a point to consider...

Tough choice for sure.

Tiffen is and has always been a quality builder.
Coachmen is "entry level"

But moving up to a diesel pusher in that budget, with slide?
I'd take a really really close look.

I do not think I would consider trading your gasser for another same make gasser 2 years newer....
