Turn signal cancel cam repair, 1987 Ford 460 chassis
If your turn signal fails to cancel, chances are the plastic cancel tab has broken off. To repair it, you have to replace the entire steering column harness if the cam is not sold separately. Replacing the harness takes patience, and you have to remove the big connector that plugs into the harness in order to feed it through the column. This is done by removing the red locking tab with a small screwdriver and releasing each wire. Make notes and/or take pictures of the wires beforehand! The harness is available online for about $40, so in a way it makes sense to replace an old component like this. It just unscrews out of the column after the wheel is removed. The wheel is removed by installing a 5/16 X 24 bolt on either side of the steering shaft and tighten until the wheel comes off. Do not try to force the wheel or use a different size bolt! You can search YouTube for videos on this subject.
