Yes I am about 800 to 1000 lbs over the Fleetwood towing rate of 5000 lbs but Ford did give the chassis towing rate at 5500 lbs, and if you take a look at my post I have spent monies to make it as safe as possible and added extra weight carrying to the trailer, hitch, receiver, safety chains, electric safety brake away switch, 4 electric brakes, heavy duty tires and added more metal frame under motorhome with air bags.

My point is if your a little over weight but went the extra distance to make sure the trailer, tow vehicle and towing equipment exceeds what you are carrying/towing than you are doing good and I or most anyone else would not comment, but when its done like the 1st post on this thread than it needs to be corrected or just stay off the road..

The risk is probably of more danger to the people traveling behind them than to themselves. They would lose property but those behind could lose life and limb. We had an ATV pop off a trailer in front of us, doing 75-80 when they passed us. Luckily I had noticed a strap lose and had backed off, just before it popped off the trailer. We went to the inside lane and the 18 wheeler behind us went to the shoulder. All ended OK but could have been disastrous.

How is pointing out a possible accident in the making is going to bring legal issues, we all learn from post like this, maybe the owner of this trailer might see this post and realize his mistake and fix the problem before somebody dies or is injured..

There was probably nothing LEO could do and most wouldnt even know what the problem was. I called CHP in Ca once asking about what weight could be hauled in an F350 where i worked for awhile. His answer was as long as not over tire rating and the bumper wasnt dragging on the ground i could haul all i wanted. Legally the guy is probably doing nothing wrong. Could a good commercial officer find something ? Sure but could they be stopped ?

Good point, but you overlooked the fact that there was nothing "in progress." This was a parked MH/tow. Now if it was swaying going down the road and the ATV fell off, maybe the response would be what you expect.

45Ricochet... X2. Looks like they are moving their selves. Take all of the STUFF (except the flag) off the Airstream and the Jeep... what would you see? Would your first impression be the same?

Maybe a little compassion for those not quite as lucky as ourselves. Clearly this is their S&B and everything they own. Safe weights? most likely not but they are trying to not live under a bridge. All the while with a USA flag proudly displayed.
