I completely understand and agree with this practice. I bred parrots for a a long time, and people would want to see the birds. The answer was always no.

I second Fair Oaks. With 32000 cows you are almost assured of seeing a calf being born. They now have hogs added. A great visit even if it isn't Wisconsin. In Milwaukee I recommend Glorioso's Italian Deli and the German restaurants. The sausage is great (wurst).

Unless you find one that is set up for tours like mentioned in an earlier post, you won't find any dairy farms opening their doors for you to look around.

If you noticed in the earlier post about the one that does conduct tours you get to "drive" thru the milking barn.

Farms where animals are involved are VERY strict about people traipsing thru their farms due to disease issues and cross contamination of the diseases even from neighboring farms.

Hog farmers go one step further to prevent disease and have all visitors/traffic stop at the end of their driveway and can not come any further.

Trust me you are not missing anything by not seeing an actual dairy farm operation up front and personal. You most likely would not like observing how it is actually done anyway. I know I didn't once I got to see it. :(

I was not able to post their link here, but I am sure somebody there would be able to help you out. We are more in the southern part of Wisconsin but there are some top notch dairies in northeast Wisconsin.:)

Not sure were to go in WI, but if you want to see a modern Dairy form, you need to visit Fair Oaks in Northern IN. It is set up for touring, complete with tour buses that will take you from the restaurant to the viewing area were they milk, and then drive through one of the barns. They also control the source of the feed within the farm, so they know they will not introduce any foreign diseases into the herd.
