velcro that holds mirror arms needs replaced

The mirror arms on my 1998 E-450 (with 40k miles) Coachman Santara 29S no longer holds the mirrors out in the driving position, while going down the road. This is very awkward when driving solo, or when "co-pilot" is napping. It appears that the Velcro "holds" need replaced. Anyone know about this and how to remedy. It looks like a simple "fix". But, I have attempted "simple fixes" before, ending up with a real mess. Both sides need refastened to the driving position.
Is this something that the RV people need to work on, or something an old man can do? Any thoughts are appreciated, we just bought this and plan to run the wheels off it, God willing.

  • The van front has a cab window cover that requires the mirrors be folded flat against the van side. Then the cab window cover for privacy can be installed. Because the coach it self is wider than the van front, the mirror arms are very long and are jointed at the van body. That joint is where the Velcro is. The mirrors are good and there is no problem with adjusting the mirrors. The arm joint where it is attached to the van is the problem.
I tried to post a picture ... tried ... but not able ... the 1000 words will need to suffice ...
    Thank you for responding ...

I can't picture Velcro involved in this. Can post a picture of the mirror? The joint/pivot in question?
  • I have a 2006 E450 and lost the drivers side mirror. I had to go back to the RV mfg and NOT ford since the RV mfc adds the mirrors. I had to order the mirror and did in fact replace it myself. If your handy and follow directions, you should be able to replace. Google 'how to replace the mirror and you will get all kinds of instr. and possibly even video.
