Water pump running fast?

Weird question. In the middle of the weekend, the water pump all of a sudden seemed like it ran really fast. Almost high pitched. Still seems to work fine. I will say I found a very small leak on the pressure side of the pump on a hose nearby. But I am struggling to figure out how that would be related. Do water pumps sound funny when they are failing?
  • I do wonder about air. No other indications of high voltage. P/O has a goofy plumbing arrangement to the pump. Need to clean that up a bit.
  • Mine will pick up speed when it gets some air, but I wouldn't call it high-pitched. Just goes really fast briefly.
  • Never experienced that ... I wonder whether higher volts would produce faster speed (check converter output) or maybe water flow is somehow impeded and there is less resistance?
