Well I've done it...

Well I've bought my first Class C motorhome.
A 2008 Jayco Greyhawk. It looks in good condition with 15000 miles on it.
Now the research begins how to look after it. Arrives June 12th from the dealer. Before it was travel trailers and a fifth wheel.
To start I will get new tires but hopefully thats all.
I look forward to the challenge now that retirement has come.
  • You don't normally hook up sewer hose to sewer until your black and grey water tanks are nearly full. You want them to be near full so that solids will flow out readily and not pile up in a pyramid inside the empty tank, blocking the exit. Dump black water first (big handle)let empty, shut black valve, open gray water second to rinse the yuck out of your sewer hose. Disconnect sewer hose and run fresh water down it into sewer to rinse remaining stuff off. Hook up shore power cable if you want to be able to run air condioner, microwave and furnace, fridge or run generator. You may need to connect shore power plug to the generator to get power into the rig. Hook up cable TV cable to post and RV and fresh water hose to post and RV if you want to use water supply. A filter betwee hose and RV is good if you want to drink local water. Turn on propane supply for water heater, furnace and fridge in propane mode. Struggle with awning and take out chairs etc if desired then relax. Keep a small collapsible stool, a pair of water pump pliers, and disposable latex gloves handy for hooking up and unhooking stuff.
  • If the weather is bad the power cord can also wait. I'll fire up
the generator. Many sites, you don't even have to level.
Doesn't get much easier than this!

How does the power cord get plugged in, sewer line get hooked up, and water hose get hooked up if you don't have to do it? Do motorhomes need to be level?

I have a Class C. All I do when I pull in is level and plug in the power cord. I use water from the pump, and only hook up the sewer if/when I need to dump. I frequently only stay somewhere a day or two so don't dump until the third or fourth stop.

The sama can be done with a trailer.

  • I plan to join you all soon too. last week I sold my TT. Yesterday I took a deposit on my truck. We are going out looking at Class Cs today. I have learned a lot from lurking here. Now we just have to narrow down what is available out there. I feel kind of naked right now not having an RV to my name.
  • Enjoy your Greyhawk. We too went from TT to 5th wheel to a Greyhawk. Now we have a small Winnie MH. Its nice to just pull in and park, especially when its rainy and windy outside.

    Happy travels.

    Congrats on your first MH!

The first time you pull into a CG and find out you don't have to spend an hour unhooking, tripoding/leveling, unload stuff from your TV into the FW, find a place to squeeze your TV into, set up etc etc etc. you will wonder why you waited so long!

MH = pull in, put in park and open a cold one! :B
