Hello everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Coachmen 407FW and I called my insurance agent to get an idea of cost. He said 3500 a year. I and almost fell off the chair. I asked him 3 times what he said.

That just add 300 a month to the payment.

Is this what everyone is paying?

My truck and TH together is just over half that a year.

It is not just about liability and comp coverage. Check the towing coverage. With a car that is not so important. With an RV it is. That is one reason we still use Progressive.

He posted in the class A section for a reason. Without posting the value what you pay is not much help. Also, is it for FT? How big a deductible? For 10 years I paid $1200 by decreasing the value from $250K to $100K non FT. Last year National wanted $1500 on $80K. I'm now paying $160 for liability ONLY with Provressive and I can add full coverage for three months for $300.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Check out Progressives website... You can do an interactive quote that allows you to change many options... Try raising the deductible and the rate will lower the cost...

You definitely cannot compare your insurance cost with someone else's - too many factors. Also, it's wise to shop around every couple years for the best rate.

$704/year for our motorhome, replacement value, contents and $500,000 liability through Progressive.
That price seems way high.

I thought the same thing when I purchased my Keystone Bullet several months ago and shopped my current auto provider, Geico. An entire discussion on Keystone's message board regarding pricing in certain market. Post #9 clears it up!

RV Insurance for my new Keystone Bullet

Remember, when towing, the liability portion of the insurance is covered by your truck's insurance. Comprehensive and collision is what you pay additional for with RV insurance. That's why is should be substantially cheaper than your TV.

By the way, by the recommendation of other experienced RV'ers, I ultimately decided to insure the TT with a different insurance agency (Good Sam) and got a pretty fair premium of $280 per year.

$105/year for our 2003 27.5 Prowler fifth with Liberty Mutual. When it was new it was maybe $110 with AAA and about 3 years later they wanted to nearly double it for no good reason. Never a claim, just wanted extra for the same coverage. That's when we shopped around and switched over to LM. We have everything with them so we get the discount. Your quote seems much too high unless you have a really expensive RV.

$108 a year for my Prevost with AAA, but that is discounted as I have homeowners with them as well.

As you can see, your insurance company is showing no loyalty to you, so why show any to them. It's time to go shopping. You'll also find that some companies just aren't interested in writing certain policies, so they gouge you.

I had State Farm about 20 years ago. They were no longer interested in writing car policies in California, so the prices went through the roof. I changed to AAA and saved almost half. State Farm eventually realized that leaving California was a mistake and then tried to get people back.

When I went to AAA, they were not writing motor home policies, so I went with Progressive for three years until they tried to double their rates. I dumped them and found AAA was now handling RV's. I pay $1400 year on the RV in California.

Vehicle insurance companies use your location, driving history, credit history, and of course the vehicle specifics in part to determine the rate they'll charge you for specific coverage. It's highly unlikely that anyone here has exactly the same details as you, making their rates irrelevant to the rates you're quoted. Check with a variety of companies and agencies and pick the rate and coverage that best fits your requirements.

If you aren't a high risk owner you should be able to insure your coach for 1/3 or less than what was quoted. I would wager your paying too much for your current coverage on your other vehicles with a quote that high.
It pays well to put out your insurance needs to bid every 3 years. There is no loyalty by insurance companies anymore.
good luck
