What's the hardest ticket to get on the Oregon Coast?

I'm planning a trip to Oregon and the PNW this summer and was wondering how far in advance do I need to plan.

I know my Florida parks very well and could tell you that the hardest reservation to get would be Bahia Honda in the Keys or Red Coconuts on row A in Fort Myers, but I don't have a clue what parks get crowded in Oregon and Vancouver.

Can you tell me what campgrounds are the absolutely most popular and how far in advance I'd need to reserve them to get in this summer with a 45 foot motorhome?

Actually, Pacific Shores also will allow Class C's 25' or longer.

You are correct Ron. I forgot. I rarely see any class "C" rigs in there. I fix the washers and dryers in the laundry rooms at Pacific Shores. (many. many other places too)

Well, the next time you're there (during the summer months, of course), drop by lot #18....I have a cold beer waiting for you.

In Astoria the Bowpicker is great. AND across the street is the Maritime Museum which is very well done and highly recommended. Then in the parking lot hop aboard the trolley for a wonderful $2 ride and learn about the waterfront from the volunteers that run the trolley. Kid's will love all of this. It's the old fashioned electric trolley and tows a gen for power, so no power lines.

At the east end of the trolley is the Rogue restaurant out on the pier. We are of course Rogue Nation members and they have a number of locations. And on the pier is a free Sardine Museum.

The above is a very unique experience - don't miss it.

Lewis and Clark Golf and RV Park in Astoria is very nice. We took the family out on the basic golf course and had a blast and we're not golfers. Not to expensive. The Lewis and Clark fort is nearby. I've also taken kayak tours at both the fort and Ft Stevens, very enjoyable.

The Newport harbor CG is unique because of it's location. And the Rogue Nation brewery is located there and you can't go wrong with a visit.

There is lots of great advice here.
I'm an Oregonian. I live in the Eugene/Springfield area. I very rarely stay at the coast in the summer because it's so crowded.

Find about 4 or 5 places to stay for a couple days each. Take the toad out and see the sites. There is lots to see.

Pacific Shores caters to only class A's. It's very nice.
Sea Perch is a fancy park too. You can't camp much closer to the ocean.
The Mill Casino is just a parking lot. Get a spot now at Sunset Bay State Park.

Safe travels and "Please" pull over on 101 and let the traffic go by.

"holstein13".....We live in California and love the Oregon Coast. There are many campgrounds big and small. A lot depends on what you want to see. We often start at Astoria, Oregon and work our way down. If you visit anytime before mid July, you'll have a good chance of hitting a fair amount of rain.

You really need to plan your trip, start and stop date and then determine how long and how far you'll want to drive each day. Just so you know, driving 200 miles down the Oregon Coast in your coach will wear you out. I wouldn't plan on doing much more than that each day.

In Astoria, there is a great campground called Fort Stevens. Directly across the street is a pretty nice KOA. There is also a boat, sitting in the middle of town (Astoria) called the Bowpicker that sells fish and chips. You'll typically wait 35-45 minutes in line to buy fish. They have two choices, large order or small order. It will be some of the best fish and chips you'll ever have. They make it from Albacore.

There is also a nice campground in Coos Bay. It's Mill Casino. Nice sites, a lot of things to do in the area and big rig friendly.

As I said, you really need to plan out your drive. The last place I'll recommend is Turtle Rock RV park in Golds Beach. It's nothing fancy, doesn't have that many sites, but will have room for you. We like it because it's near (about 2 miles) the Rogue River that has Jerry's Jet Boat rides. It's a jet boat excursion up the Rogue River with lunch and dinner runs. They pretty much sell out everyday during the summer.
