There are lots of bargain priced DP's with older engine technology. Have you considered a Bluebird. Lots of nice units under $20,000. But I really don't think you will find a DP with that IH engine. Besides there are other considerations like build quality and layout. Finding one with your desired engine but nothing else is not the answer.

...and the BB will have leaky/smoking 6v or 8v92's
Not unless it's 30+ years old. The last 2-strokes are "Silver 92s" and don't leak. Many Birds of that era have Cat power. - JarlaxleExplorer II

DT 466, is that a inline 6 or the Ford V8 built by International?
It's the International inline 6 (Navistar MaxxForce DT: 7.6 L wet-sleeve diesel.)
A Detroit Deisel 40 series was built by International, and is essentially the same motor, so I'd be ok with one of those too.
I want one for their reliability more than their power. It's an older model, yes, but my budget won't allow for newer high hp models. It should be plenty powerful for my needs. I value long-term reliability over hp specs.
When I get parts for mine I tell them it's a DT 530
It is. The Series 40 is an International engine painted green. - Bird_FreakExplorer III was a diesel tech for Saunders leasing when the dt466 came out. I was sent to IHC school to learn to build them as we had a whole fleet of rental box truck with them. Love that engine! Almost bullit proof!
- RickyrocketExplorerRockingM your right,I too have put plenty of miles in trucks/tractors powered be DT 466 motors, reliable is what they're known for, surprised more MHs weren't powered by them.
- HorsedocExplorer IIWanderLodge built many of their coaches with Detroit diesels. I haven't seen one in years since Blue Bird closed their plant in middle Georgia.
- RockingMExplorerI've read a lot of the comments. Written I think by many
Who have never made a living with a truck. I ran 466 for years.
Best engine out there and my last LOG truck was an
Extreme duty 1981 international live tandem tagged
54000 lbs. 250 hp with 8LL tranny. Sure, not as much power as the
Cummings or Cats but to rebuild an Int 466 in frame kit is
$1000. Try that in a cat or Cummins, of course I do my on work.
The all mechanical engine pre 94 is best.
So I too am looking for such to replace the tag camper.
I suspect I'll have to find a Class A with a blow engine
And convert.
I sold my 81 and wish now I'd kept it and built a motorhome with it.
Be kinda high up in the air though. ;) - Dune_HaulerExplorerLook for a International 7200 7300 7400 or 7500 based truck they all had a DT466 or you could find a HT570 that had 380HP 1200FTLBS of torque and all of them would take a MP8 chip tuner. I had a CXT7400 4X4 as a puller that had a HT570 and I will tell you it would out pull anything up a grade. I had a 22,000lb trailer behind my rig and it would pull any grade at 65+ and still had power to spare. I miss it as I currently have a ISC 360 that is a dog in comparison. Good Luck with your search.
- themoreweexplorExplorerThat's cool
We checked out a local school bus conversion tonight. It was about 15% remodeled. I realized a school bus conversion would be tons more work than I expected. It was ptetty daunting to think of building one from scratch.
