wild weather strips awning

Coming south out of Houston yesterday, there was a very nice motor home with toad on the side of the road with an auto awning fully extended and ripped/bent. I was not able to stop but surmise that the side wind extracted the awning. I have seen that a couple times. When the nasty blows and I have to travel I will bungy my slide topper in place and lash the locks on my mech awning. This morning we had gale force winds in Rockport and it would definitely not be a travel days
