wind whistle at windshield

08 Monaco Cayman - previous owner had windshield replaced. Now when hitting a bump or high wind the windshield will whistle - loudly.
Is there a sealant to apply around the gasket that might stop this? Or another solution other than replacement? It is one piece windshield, 5ft tall and about 8ft across.
  • I would stop by any reputable auto glass installer and have them fix for you. I would not recommend this a DIY home repair.
  • Sure it is the windshield? The front side windows are notorious for whistling if the plastic inserts beneath the fixed glass fall out. Black electrical tape the holes under the fixed glass. Leave the ones under the slider open...those do not whistle.
  • To verify the source of the noise, get a roll of blue painter's tape and tape up the "likely suspects" a section at a time and drive it. AFTER you verify the source, then decide the best way to address it.

Many have found that the side mirrors, awning mounts or side window drains are the actual source of the noise.
  • Not a Monaco Cayman, but my pickup radio antenna will vibrate loudly enough to be annoying at 84mph. Faster or slower, and the noise goes away.

Just food for thought - might not be the windshield.....
  • Windshield replacements on Motorhomes use Urethane black sealant to glue the windshield to the gasket/cap. Since you have a problem when hitting a bump, the windshield is NOT secured properly. The correct fix is to have the windshield pulled and reset/glued correctly. Installing sealant to stop the problem will not work. Once you hit another bump or flex the front cap, any sealant you install will come loose again. Doug
  • Thanks. I followed Doug's advise - had windshield pulled and reset with a new gasket. It's still at the shop, but hope to test it this week.
  • Recently while traveling I noticed a piece of black foam rubber flapping
out of the front arm on the door awning .
When we stopped for a break I pulled the long foam piece out , well that
proved to be a mistake , at road speed a loud whistle , howl occurred .
The noise was intolerable but a new piece of foam stuffed in the groove
    stopped it completely .
